Celebrating a Century of Kellogg’s Brand in Australia: A Legacy of Innovation, Connection, and Growth
By Renee McCarthy
Director of Communications, ANZ
This past year marked an extraordinary milestone: 100 years of Kellogg's brand in Australia. For a century, our cereal has graced the pantries of Australians, offering a trusted start to countless mornings. From the pioneering days of our first Corn Flakes production line to our state-of-the-art innovations today, this centennial celebrates a legacy of progress, partnerships, and purpose.

Building A Legacy: The Beginnings of Kellogg's in ANZ
Our journey began with Morris Raymer, a machinery specialist tasked with setting up Kellogg’s first Australian production line near Sydney. In 1928, our operations moved to the now-iconic Botany plant, which recently celebrated its own milestone: 96 years. This factory has become a cornerstone of our business, showcasing both our history and ongoing innovations.
Over the decades, I’ve witnessed amazing milestones that have made the Kellogg’s brand a household name in ANZ. From the introduction of beloved characters like Cornelius the rooster in 1960 to Nutri-Grain’s launch in 1980, our story is as rich as the cereals we create.

Nutri-Grain: A Proud Australian Icon
Nutri-Grain, one of our most beloved and innovative products, exemplifies our commitment to health and wellbeing. Developed specifically for Australian audiences, Nutri-Grain has undergone two major renovations over the past decade to reduce sugar and sodium while maintaining the flavor that fans love.
Sugar Reduction: We’ve reduced sugar by 25% through careful reformulations in 2015 and 2020.
Sodium Reduction: Sodium content has also been reduced by 25%, and fibre content has doubled from 1.1g to 2.1g per serving.
Innovations: New flavors and formats, such as the Vanilla Malt 25% Less Sugar (2023) and High Protein Crunch (2024), continue to meet evolving consumer preferences.
Nutri-Grain is not just a cereal; it’s a part of Australia’s identity, fueling athletes and families alike while leading the way in nutritional innovation.
Nourishing Australians with Local Connections
One of the things that sets Kellogg’s apart in ANZ is our unwavering connection to local farmers. For over 100 years, we’ve sourced the majority of our ingredients, such as wheat, corn, sugar, and salt, directly from Australian farms. Today, we remain the largest maize buyer in Australia, purchasing over 8,000 tons annually to make staples like Corn Flakes.
Our commitment to sustainability is equally strong. Initiatives like our soil sustainability partnership with local farmers ensure that our impact on the environment is positive and lasting. These efforts reflect our dedication not only to the planet but to the communities we serve.
A Celebration of People and Purpose
Last year’s centennial celebrated the people who make our legacy possible. From our Family and Friends event to the 100-Year Stakeholder Celebration, every moment has highlighted the partnerships and contributions that have shaped Kellogg’s in Australia.
A particular highlight was our Generation K Panel, where employees from across generations shared their stories and experiences. This event captured the spirit of our team and the enduring values that unite us.
What makes working here so impactful? For me, it’s the people and the culture. Our teams—whether at Botany, our corporate offices, or out in the field—are united by a shared passion for quality, innovation, and community.

Looking Ahead: The Next Chapter of Kellogg's in ANZ
Last year’s celebrations were a beautiful reflection of our journey so far. From videos featuring long-serving employees to events that brought together families, stakeholders, and employees, our team has embraced the past as we prepare for the future.
As I look ahead, Kellanova ANZ will continue to honor the legacy of Kellogg’s while driving innovation, sustainability, and community impact. Whether you’re considering joining our team or enjoying your favorite cereal at breakfast, you’re part of this remarkable story.
Here’s to the next century of good mornings.
